Welcome to my FAQ page. Below, I list the most commonly asked questions regarding TCIC/TLETS policy, TCOLE policy, and other training topics. If you have any other question(s) not listed here, contact me and I'll be more than happy to help answer them for you!

I am an elected/appointed Official (Sheriff, Chief of Police, Constable, Judge, etc.). Do I have to have a TLETS account?If your duties include having access to information obtained from the TLETS/NLETS network, either by operating a terminal or requesting/viewing the information, then YES.

I attended the Police Academy, and the TCIC/TLETS Mobile Operator Course was part of the curriculum, but it is not showing up on my TCLEEDS. Why is this?Upon successful completion of the Police Academy, all of your training is "clumped" into 1 lump-sum of hours. Your 8 hours for the TCIC/TLETS Mobile Operator Course is included. If you need any assistance in verifying your course attendance, contact the Instructor that taught the class.

I have been on military deployment for the last 3 months, and my TLETS certification expired 2 months ago. Do I have to re-attend classroom training?No. Personnel absent from their agencies, due to military leave, will be granted up to 6 months to re-certify, following their return to duty.

My TLETS account status is active, but I still can't run anything. Why is this?In addition to maintaining your TCIC/TLETS Certification every 2 years, you are also required to maintain FBI CJIS Security Awareness Training as well, every 2 years. If either certification is expired, it can suspend your access to TLETS/NLETS until they are renewed. ​ CJIS Security Awareness Training can be found here. If your login credentials are not working, or you do not know what your credentials are, please see your agency's Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC).

What is a TLETS User ID?An OpenFox User ID is a unique identifier for your TLETS account (Example: ESO5555). In order to have access to the TLETS/NLETS network, and to attend TCIC/TLETS training, you must have an active TLETS account. If you do not have an OpenFox User ID, or do not know what yours is, please see your agency's Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC).

I have been out of the public safety profession for the last 5 years, but have just recently returned. Before I left, I had TCIC/TLETS access but now I don't; why is this?Operators who fail to complete the re-certification test, within 1 year from their expiration date, will be required to re-attend the appropriate classroom training to regain their certification/access.

My TCIC/TLETS certification is nearing expiration, and my Chief says I have to re-attend classroom training. Is this true?​No. Generally, TCIC/TLETS re-certification exams are taken online via NexTEST. However, if your agency head wants you to re-attend classroom training, then you are obliged to follow your agency's policy/procedure.

My TLETS certification expired 2 months ago; do I have to re-attend classroom training?No. Personnel absent from their agencies, due to sick leave, will be granted up to 6 months to re-certify, following their release for duty by medical authority.

With the implementation of HB 786, which requires Texas Telecommunicators to take the Cardiac Emergency Communication Course (T-CPR), my agency does not handle Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD). Do we still have to take this course?YES. In accordance with Texas Occupations Code 1701.3071 & 1701.352, all Telecommunicators are required to take the Cardiac Emergency Communications (T-CPR) course; regardless of if provide EMD or Law Enforcement-only dispatching.

Is the T-CPR course (786) the only course I have to take, to remain TCOLE compliant ?No. TCOLE mandates the following courses must be re-certified every two (2) years, to remain in compliance: 1. A nationally-recognized Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course (American Red Cross or American Heart Association). 2. The Cardiac Emergency Communication (T-CPR) Course (TCOLE # 786).

When do I have to have the Cardiac Emergency Communication course (T-CPR) completed by?HIRED ON/AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 This course will be included in the Basic Telecommunicator Course (TCOLE # 1080) HIRED BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 Telecommunicators must take this course by the end of the current TCOLE training cycle (08/31/2025)

I am interested in attending TCIC/TLETS and/or TCOLE courses. Am I qualified to take them ?No. In order to be eligible to attend TCIC/TLETS or TCOLE courses, you must be employed by a law enforcement agency. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement, reach out to a Police Department or Sheriff's Office for assistance in getting started!
